Now, For Something COMPLETELY Different...

"Don't drive angry. Do not drive angry."

Good advice from Phil to Phil in one of our family's favorite-ist movies, "Ground Hog Day". Classic. This is the film's 15th anniversary. Wooohooo.

Phil: "This is one time where television really fails to capture the true excitement of a large squirrel predicting the weather." *heavy sarcasm*

Happy Groundhog Day ya'll. Six more weeks of winter according to the fat rat. Guess what we'll be watching tonight? Yeah, you're smart like that. Good guess. Meanwhile, we've got up to four inches of snow predicted for tonight. I love winter.

  1. I think this is the first time I've found something to disagree with you on.

    I HATE WINTER!!!

  2. Yeah, I know I'm probably in somewhat of a minority with my love of winter. We had a lovely snowstorm with several inches today. Which means I got to shovel the sidewalk and driveway. I will wrestle the shovel away from my husband if necessary to do that job. 1) because he has a bad back. 2) It's fun! Good times.

Well, sorry for the bad news from Punxsy Phil, NNL. Bundle up!

  3. Okay, it's August now, so I can't comment on the past snow. But I LOVE winter, too! SNOW DAY!!! In preparation for a possible snowstorm, my children and I yell, "Ten feet! Ten feet!". I love to be snowed in. We stay in our jammies all day, play board games, read, drink hot chocolate, watch movies......FUN! And if we don't get TEN FEET, we go outside and play. It's all good! Well, except I don't get into shoveling, but I'll do it help out my husband.

And also, this a great movie! I haven't watched it in a while though -- you're giving me more and more ideas on things to put in my Bbuster queue. :-)

I love it when he goes nuts for the first time on camera. I can't remember what he says and does, but it's LOL hilarious. Everyone is looking at him like, WTF???!!!

  4. It's nice to meet another snow/winter lover! I always feel like I'm saying something really weird when I proclaim my love for the cold, snowy months judging by the reactions of those I say it to. Ah, well. It sure sounds like you and your kids know how to make the most of snow days!

Is this the "Ground Hog Day" quote you're thinking of:

Somebody asked me today, "Phil, if you could be anywhere in the world, where would you like to be?" And I said to him, "Prob'ly right here - Elko, Nevada, our nation's high at 79 today." Out in California, they're gonna have some warm weather tomorrow, gang wars, and some *very* overpriced real estate. Up in the Pacific Northwest, as you can see, they're gonna have some very, very tall trees.

    HA! Love it. :o) :o)

  5. It's nice to meet a fellow winter/snow lover, too! Most people I know *hate* winter and complain how long it is, yada, yada. Winter can be just so gorgeous; just after a snow, when the sun comes out and everything sparkles like diamonds. Lovely! I'll never move south as I love winter too much!

Oh boy, I can't place that quote from the movie. I was talking about the part in the movie where he's woken up quite a few times now to the same day and he's got a really bad attitude in front of the camera. I think this is the quote from that scene, but I can't be sure:

PHIL CONNORS: This is pitiful. A thousand people freezing their butts off waiting to worship a rat. What a hype. Well, it used to mean something in this town. They used to pull the hog out, and they used to *eat* it. You're hypocrites, all of you! You have a problem with what I'm saying, Larry? [Larry shakes his head "no."]

PHIL CONNORS: Untie your tongue, and you come out here and talk, huh? Am I upsetting you, Princess?
    [Rita shakes her head "no."]

PHIL: You want a prediction about the weather, you're asking the wrong Phil.
I'll give you a winter prediction.
    It's gonna be cold...
    it's gonna be gray...
    and it's gonna last you
for the rest of your life.

LOVE IT! The camera man, Chris Elliott, and Andie M. are just looking at him like he's totally lost it and he has! I'm not sure if he takes off with the ground hog after that. Doesn't he drive off a cliff with the ground hog behind the wheel?! LOL. This morning I got a big laugh out of the picture you posted of the two Phils driving the car. LOL. It's been a long time since I saw that movie. I'm just laughing here. I gotta go out and get this ASAP. Good times.....

  6. Another "Winter Lover!" here-no way could I live without the seasons (even if Spring and Fall are on "Fast Forward") or in air conditioning *not* "optional" environs. Or flat lands. Uh uh. I need mountains, valleys, clean rivers, fresh air, the deep, endless forest which surrounds my place on 3 sides, all the critters large and small. I do believe I live in the most beautiful Cathedral ever imagined or created. I'm one damn fortunate old woman!
A good old snow storm, somethin' yummy simmerin' on or in the stove makes the whole house smell good. Oh yeah-and the sparkling diamonds of the snow after the storm passes from the sun or the moon and a millions stars shining through your windows at night is indescribably beautiful. The great heat from a wood stove just penetrates the old bones. My old cat, a good movie, good friends/family-life is lived in these days and long nights, life as it was meant to be...deep peace, deeper gratitude.
    Priceless.
